WHAT IS A URINARY TRACT INFECTION?
A urinary tract infection, more commonly known as a UTI, is an infection that occurs where urine passes through the body before being passed. The affected areas include the bladder, ureters, urethra and the kidneys. Any area that the urine passes through can be infected but you can experience different symptoms dependent on which area is most affected.
D-mannose is a naturally occurring sugar that sticks to the E. coli bacteria that most commonly causes UTIs, so it can be effectively “rinsed” out when you urinate.
E. coli bacteria cause the majority of UTIs. According to the esteemed Mayo Clinic, when E. coli bacteria reach either the bladder or the urethra they “may take hold and grow into a full-blown infection”.
Ingested D-Mannose could reach the bladder or urinary tract where UTI-causing E. coli bacteria can be found. D-Mannose has been found to stick to E. coli bacteria. D-Mannose is then flushed out of the body.
Because of TGA rules, D-Mannose Australia makes no claims about the therapeutic value of D-Mannose in relation to urinary tract infections. However, Google shows various research papers on the matter which you can read for yourself via this link:
